TISSUE PAPER OR AIR, THE ETERNAL DILEMMA
29-06-2023
As we know, the options available for drying hands in a public bathroom are relatively limited: tissue paper or air dryers. In this blog we want to take a short tour of the key indicators to consider when choosing one or the other method.

HAND TOWELS AND TISSUE DRYERS: hygiene, efficiency, comfort, odor control, and versatility

Hygiene: Hand towels are the most hygienic option for drying hands. Unlike air dryers, which can disperse microorganisms into the environment, tissue paper absorbs humidity and helps eliminate germs and bacteria on the hands, reducing the risk of spreading diseases.

Efficiency: Hand dryers allow hands to dry quickly and effectively. With only a few seconds of drying, an optimal result can be achieved, while air dryers may require a prolonged time and do not always provide complete drying

Comfort: Using tissue paper is more comfortable for users. Many people prefer the sensation of drying their hands with paper, as it provides a more pleasant and satisfying experience than the hot, noisy air of dryers.

Odor Control: Hand dryer and hand towels help reduce unpleasant odors that can may remain on hands after washing. By absorbing humidity, it can also eliminate residual odors, leaving hands fresh and clean.

Versatility: Tissue can be used for a variety of hygiene-related tasks, such as covering taps when closing them or opening public doors, providing an additional layer of protection.

On the other hand, we have to take into account what we face when we have air dryers in public toilets:

Air dryers can spread water particles and microorganisms present on hands around the bathroom. This can contaminate the environment and increase the risk of spreading diseases among users.

Air dryers often require more time than drying with tissue paper. This can be inconvenient for people who want to dry quickly and get on with their activities.

Many dryers are noisy and can create discomfort where multiple dryers are in use at the same time.

The hot air can remove the natural humidity from the skin, which can lead to a feeling of dryness and tightness in the hands. This can be especially uncomfortable for people with sensitive skin.

Such solutions often consume more energy than tissue paper. In a context of concern for sustainability and energy efficiency, the use of tissue paper may be a more eco-friendly option.

In summary, hand drying with tissue paper offers benefits in terms of hygiene, efficiency, comfort, odor control and versatility, while air drying may have disadvantages related to germ dispersion, prolonged time, noise, etc.
